Reverend Talvin Brown Barner, Jr. Maury County Commissioner, Rev. Talvin Brown Barner, Jr. was born on November 4, 1950 in Columbia, TN.  He departed this earthly life at ALIVE Hospice in Nashville on April 29, 2026 to the Church Triumphant with the Almighty Father.

He married DeVora Laurita Harlan on December 19, 1981.Talvin was a 1968 graduate of Carver-Smith High School. He was hired by L&N Railroad Company (CSX Transportation) in June of 1974 and was employed there for nearly 20 years. Rev. Talvin was a longtime member of Bethel Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church.  He accepted God's call to the ministry in March of 1991, and was ordained a deacon in the A.M.E. Church on November 5, 1995.  He retired from pastoring in 2010.  Upon retirement, he returned to his home church at Bethel Chapel A.M.E. and continued to serve faithfully until his health declined.

Talvin had a passion for serving his community.  He was one of the three founding members of the Maury County Boys and Girls Club in 1995.  He had a love for coaching baseball that began in his early 20's.  He was awarded a grant from Major League Baseball that brought RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) to Columbia and Maury County.

Talvin was elected to the Maury County Board of Education for two terms, serving from 2002 to 2010.  In 2010, he was elected to the Maury County Commission where he represented the 3rd District. He served from 2010 until his death.
